Strategies for Resolving Vibration and Abnormal Noise During Injection Molding Machine Mold Opening and Closing

The mold opening and closing process exhibits significant jitter and vibration, accompanied by abnormal noises from impact and friction, as well as unstable speed; in severe cases, this can damage the mold and guide pillars.

I. Troubleshooting Hydraulic and Servo Parameters
 

Improper settings for mold opening/closing speed and pressure: excessive pressure during the low-speed phase and overly steep acceleration/deceleration slopes cause impact. Appropriately reduce low-speed pressure, extend the deceleration buffer zone, and avoid abrupt starts and stops.

 

Excessive servo response gain: The gain parameter is set too high, causing oscillation in the cylinder's movement; appropriately reduce the servo gain to eliminate jitter and resonance.

 

Internal cylinder leakage or air ingress in the hydraulic circuit: Air in the system causes jerky movement and abnormal noise; perform oil and air purging, and inspect cylinder seals for wear.

II. Mechanical Structure Failure Points
 

Lack of lubrication, wear, or scoring on guide pillars and guide bushings: Insufficient lubrication causes abnormal friction noise. Inspect the automatic lubrication system and apply grease; replace the components if wear is severe.

 

Excessive clearance in the toggle mechanism (articulated arm) and wear on pins and bronze bushings: Prolonged use leads to increased clearance at the toggle joints, causing vibration and impact during mold opening and closing. Inspect joint clearances, adjust the mold-locking and mold-adjustment clearances, and replace worn components.

 

Abnormal clearance in the mold adjustment mechanism, loose mold adjustment nut, tilting of the moving platen, and abnormal noise/vibration during operation; recalibrate the mold adjustment and tighten the locking nut.

 

The mold is installed unevenly, the clamping plates are not tightened, and the mold is off-center, causing vibration and abnormal noise during opening and closing; realign the mold and tighten the clamping plates.

III. Issues with Oil Circuits and Valve Components
 

The mold opening/closing solenoid valve is sticking or the valve spool is worn, resulting in unstable flow output and jerky, intermittent movement; clean or replace the solenoid valve.

 

Filter element clogged, resulting in insufficient oil supply flow and unstable operation; replace the hydraulic oil filter element and check the cleanliness of the oil.

IV. Quick Tips for Distinguishing Between Them
 

If the machine vibrates and makes abnormal noises during mold opening and closing while running without a mold, the issue lies with the equipment itself (toggle mechanism, hydraulic cylinder, servo parameters, or valves).

 

Operation is smooth under no-load conditions, but vibration and abnormal noise occur only after the mold is installed: focus the inspection on the mold installation, mold counterbalancing, and the mold guide pillars and bushings.

Daily Prevention

Perform regular maintenance and lubrication of the toggle mechanism; do not simply increase mold opening/closing pressure or speed. When commissioning a new machine, prioritize setting up the cushioning/deceleration phase. Regularly inspect pins and copper bushings for wear and replace parts proactively to prevent issues from escalating.
