The injection molding process begins with the plasticizing phase. During this phase, plastic pellets are fed into the machine's hopper and conveyed to a heating and plasticizing mechanism. This mechanism typically consists of a barrel and a screw, which operates at temperatures ranging from 150°C to 300°C, depending on the type of plastic used. The screw rotates and moves backward, mixing and melting the plastic pellets into a uniform molten state. The molten plastic is then maintained at a constant temperature and pressure to ensure uniformity and injection-ready condition.


Next, the injection phase takes place. The screw, now filled with molten plastic, is propelled forward with tremendous force, pushing the plastic through the nozzle into the mold cavity. Injection pressures range from 50 to 200 MPa, depending on the complexity and size of the plastic part being produced. This high-pressure injection ensures that the molten plastic fills every corner of the mold cavity, accurately replicating the design of the mold.


Once the mold is filled, the compression phase begins. The pressure control system maintains constant pressure on the molten plastic for a specified time, usually a few seconds to a minute. This stage is critical to ensure that the plastic part achieves the desired density and dimensional accuracy. The pressure applied during this stage can vary but is usually maintained at around 50-70% of the injection pressure to prevent over-compression and warping of the part.


Following compression is the cooling stage. The mold, and the plastic part inside, are cooled by circulating cooling water or oil in cooling channels embedded in the mold. Cooling time can vary depending on the thickness of the plastic part and the type of plastic used but is usually between a few seconds and a few minutes. Effective cooling solidifies the plastic part so that it retains its shape and size after being ejected from the mold.


Finally, the mold opening stage begins. After the plastic part has cooled sufficiently, the mold opens and the ejection system pushes the part out of the mold cavity.
